Booze Bans

Following a non-publicised public consultation, Brighton & Hove Council have imposed a city-wide public drinking ban in the entire Metropolitan area.

Despite assurances that this power would be used with discretion, these measures are being used in a heavy-handed manner. You can now be stopped by a PCSO and forced to throw away unopened cans of drink just purchased from a supermarket, or stopped from having a quiet drink with friends on the beach.

Furthermore, the "ID required" culture has got out of hand. Even having been with somebody under-18 earlier in the day is sufficient to prevent you from purchasing alcohol in a shop.

These things have actually happened!

See Against the Booze Bans for further information.
