Civil Challenge
From Freebrighton
Home Secretary Jacqui Smith has called for citizens to challenge those who undermine British values. She calls this a "civil challenge". ([1])
Yet it is the government who themselves undermine British values by introducing laws that restrict our basic freedoms. We increasingly have to ask permission for activities that were considered normal once before: singing in a pub, taking a photograph of a nice building, drinking a beer in a park or looking after a friend's child.
Worse still, we often have to pay for "licenses" to do these very basic things.
We therefore wish to take up Ms Smith's challenge ourselves, and present a "civil challenge" to the government and the increasingly bureaucratic authorities.
What to do
If you are stopped by a police officer, PCSO or other official, do the following:
- Take down their name and ID number.
- Note down the time of day and as many details of the situation.
- Tell us about it, by editing our State Terror Log page with as many details as possible.
Most government officials (councillors etc) deny that laws such as anti-terrorist legislation and anti-social behaviour legislation are being abused. We wish to present evidence that this is not the case.
